Colorblock draft snake

i also made something that probably comes in handy in most san francisco households:

a few of the windows in our apartment rattle when it's windy, and it drives me crazy, especially while i'm trying to sleep. so when i saw this idea in lotta jandsotter's book, i knew i'd be making a few. it was actually the easiest thing i've made so far, and it was fun to fill it with rice and see the tube become three dimensional.

here's another look, this time in the living room:

it doesn't actually 'work' in the living room because the ledge on this window is tapered, which means the snake needs to be skinnier to fit snugly along the bottom edge of the window frame. i think i will make another, skinnier version because this is actually the window that's most rattly (and annoying!)

Soft serve and polka dot potholders

i made these potholders for a friend, who told sean that she likes food-printed fabrics.

i mixed in a few strips of polka dots (got several yards of the stuff at a sidewalk sale last week) to pick up on the cherry topping in the main print. today i also cut the fabric for and assembled about a dozen more potholders...and now i am scheming up patterns for some oven mitts!?! to go with them.

i did all of this in lieu of going to the gym. i strained my achilles tendon yesterday while lugging my bike up a flight of stairs, and sewing is as about as low-impact as it gets.

Progress report

i didn't have time to post these glam shots before i left for vacation. i'm now finishing up the outer border of quilt #2, but i took these while quilting the three layers (front, batting, back) together.
